The Cooperative was founded March 3, 1934 as a farmer owned organization, by a group of farmers interested in volume purchases such as seed, feed, fertilizer and farm supplies. The cooperative was formed as a non-profit organization with any profits made each year above expenses paid back in the form of a patronage dividend.
Agriculture from the time the Co-Op was founded to the late 1970's was involved in the production of soybeans, cotton, corn and other row crops, with a growing number of beef cattle and dairy farms.
The period of the 1980's brought a drastic change in agriculture. In our area we experienced a decline in the row crop acreage such as cotton and soybeans, with much of this going into hay lands and grazing areas. Along with these changes came a large reduction in dairy farms. Because os these changes in agriculture the cooperative also made changes inour way of doing business, we are more than just a feed, seed and fertilizer store, although this remains our basic business, we have made changes and added products as the lifestyles of our patrons change. We now have a large line of tack, grooming and health care products for horses. Our Nursery carries a variety of shrubs and plants for the gardener. We can outfit the hunter or the worker with Mossy Oak and Carhartt clothing, boots by Lacrosse, Georgia, Rocky and Muck.
With the continued decrease in traditional agriculture, the cooperative has and continues to evolve into a lifestyle cooperative, but will continue to meet needs of our agricultural customers.
